As if pyrite was bad enough an unfortunate customer in Clongriffin had to have his patio excavated after repairs were carried out. The gentleman from Poland, called Martin, called us regarding a blocked sink. After unsuccessfully trying to clear the sink we traced the pipe to the back of the house using a 'cat and sonde'. This is a unit which can be put on the end of the rods and it emits a signal which can then be picked up on the surface. When we excavated the concrete which had been laid by workmen following the pyrite removal ,we found a gully had been buried with a plastic bag shoved into it. A gully is like a swan-neck to stop the smells of the sewer from coming up. The gully was blocked which we cleared and brought it up to ground level, the way it should have been left. Said Martin afterwards... "Just want to say you did a very very good job, you saved my house, my wife and my new 4 day old baby". (congrats Martin to you and your wife on you new arrival Simon)
