When your drain is starting to overflow and you decide to lift the manhole and all you see is a load of stones it usually means only one thing "You've got rats".

Now you've got to find out where they are coming from as poison alone will only kill the first one or two and not solve the problem long term.

So the first thing we do is clear out all the stones and clear and clean the drain so we can see whats going on. Then we carry out a camera inspection to see if there is any breaks in the pipe where the rats could be getting out from the sewer. The gravel we see is the result of burrowing by the rats and they pull the stones in to the sewer as to make space for themselves. In this instance the source of the culprits is a hole in the wall of the manhole (where the screwdriver is sticking out of). Now to seal up the hole we use rapid setting cement with glass mixed in (a bit cruel i know but they're not paying rent). Its no harm to leave a radio on nearby while the concrete is setting to keep them away .
