In days of old most copper cylinders looked like the one above removed from a house in Donnybrook.
A green 'streak like' mark on the side of the cylinder or along a seam is a sure sign of corrosion or a leak and the only real remedy is to replace the cylinder altogether.
Here we see the replacement cylinder which comes already insulated hence much more energy efficient. So if you think your cylinder is quite old and/or showing signs of wear and tear then it is best to have it looked at before it bursts.
