Concealing a manhole under a timber floor can cause all sorts of problems.
We were called to a house in Sandyford due to a recurring foul odor. We checked out the drains but they all seemed to be working ok. So we spread our search into the neighbors house next door and removed the toilet near to the party wall. We discovered this toilet blocked years ago and somebody smashed the sewer at the back of it in an effort to clear it.
So this toilet was flushing under the party wall and going under the chap’s timber floor next door for years. Ah well, we got the job of cleaning up under the floor and fixing the sewer next door, happy days.
When your drain is starting to overflow and you decide to lift the manhole and all you see is a load of stones it usually means only one thing "You've got rats".Read Full Article
The tenant upstairs in this property in North Strand was oblivious to the fact that every time they flushed their loo it was dissappearing from their view but was re-surfacing up through the toilet downstairs. Alas the unit downstairs was un-occupied for a considerable period so nobody noticed events that were unfolding.
